Success for one out of two!

Potty training has been going reasonably well.  Our days have been filled with mostly peeing on the potty with a few accidents from Zachary and Nicolas each day.

But today Nicolas had a wonderful day.  He stayed dry the entire day!  Zachary looked like he was on track for that as well but he didn't have that great of a day.  I wonder whether or not his cold has anything to do with the fact that he's just been peeing so much.  You can't blame the kid if he pees 6 or more times in an hour.

Maybe tomorrow will be the day when I have two boys that stay dry all day.  Regardless they have still made huge progress since we first started it all.  I am very proud of them and how well they're doing.

Potty Training - Day 3

We had a very successful day yesterday.  The boys only had 2 accidents each.  One of the accidents for Zachary was a poop so it kind of doesn't count and Nicolas had one minor accident while they were having quiet time in their room.  The rest of the time they told me they needed to pee.  I am very impressed that we have come this far in three days.

Today I am going to try to venture out of the house with them.  It will also be the first day they spend wearing pants on top of their big boy underwear.  Hopefully it won't turn out to be too messy of a day...

Potty Training - Day 2

We had a much more successful day 2 than day 1.  The boys peed on the potty 2 times for every accident.  That`s including the 2 poop accidents they each had.  I am feeling very optimistic that day 3 will be even better.

The mornings seem to be easier to handle since neither of them had any major accident the entire morning.  the afternoon and evening was a little hairier.  It seemed like they were a little too tired to really focus on their need to pee.

Tomorrow I plan on giving them a more normal amount of liquid.  This system requires you to give them an abnormal amount of liquid to ensure that they pee a lot.  So, I would like to see how they will do given a normal amount of liquid in their diet.  Wish us luck!

Big Boy Underwear and Potty Training

I decided this morning to really jump start the boys' potty training.  A friend of mine tried this 3 day potty training with her daughter and it seemed to work well.  I figured since they already know how and can sometimes tell me when they need to go, it might go well.

So, the gist of the training is to have them in a shirt and big boy underwear all day and watch.  You need to keep reminding them that if they need to go to tell you.  If they have an accident, you need to pick them up and bring them to the potty right away.   It is all about positive reinforcement.  The fact that they are in big boy underwear is to help you catch the messes and for them to feel it right away.

We started this morning and so far they have each wet 3 different pairs of underwear.  But the up side is that they also both told me twice that they needed to go before they peed!  For Zachary, it's been the last two times he's peed!  So, he's been dry for a couple of hours now (he peed a tiny bit as I was typing this...).

The only thing I am reluctant to try is to keep them in their big boy underwear at night.  I think right now that's asking for lots of trouble.  I think right now I want to be focused on getting them dry during the day.  I will probably put them in pull ups at night (even though this training is completely against that!).

Blueberry's kicking away...

Blueberry has been moving around for quite a while now but he is starting to get very strong!  He moves around a lot and can even stop me with a big punch or kick when I am busy doing else.  I don't ever remember that with the boys but then they didn't have nearly as much room.

Steve got to finally feel him kick last night.  He generally kicks very low but last night he decided to start moving around closer to my belly button.  So, since we were laying in bed watching tv, Steve was able to finally feel him!  It was so cute to see his reaction.  I think this is one of the things that makes it very real for the Dad's.  I think it also makes the end seem a lot closer.  I am almost 24 weeks so only another 16 weeks or so before this little man decides to make his appearance.  I can't wait!

Really big boy beds

In preparation for Blueberry's arrival, we decided to upgrade the boys to twin beds rather than the toddler beds they are currently in.  The toddler beds were converted from their cribs but since we will be needing a crib, we decided that it was time to change their beds.  So, we bought them some new beds and dressers for their room.  We put them up yesterday and they had their first night in them last night. 

It basically went off without a hitch.  Since they have not been napping, they were so tired when we put them to bed that they crashed.  Nicolas woke up twice (within 15 minutes of each other) complaining that his bum hurt.  He is pretty red in that general area so I changed his diaper and put some cream on him.  Once he settled down and got comfy again, he fell right to sleep.  Thankfully no one fell out of their beds and they seemed quite proud of themselves this morning.

I went into their room last night and snapped a picture of them sleeping.  It is just too cute!

The boys have been taking naps only every other day.  But yesterday they decided that it would be day 2 of them not napping.  They managed to stay in a reasonably good mood all day.  A little over 30 minutes before bedtime we turned on the Cars movie for them to watch.  Here is a video of Nicolas about 10 minutes before we were going to put them to bed...

Peeing at night

Last night Zachary woke me up at 2:00am to ask me to take him to the potty.  I tried to get him to go back to sleep without going but he was very insistent that he needed to go.  So, I told him I would take him but he needed to pee right away or we were going back to bed.  He stood at the potty and peed immediately!

Hopefully this is a good sign and he will start asking to go during the day as well.  Monday I start trying to get them to go regularly again...
