Randomness....

Nicolas' eyes are much better. The antibiotics seem to be working. His eyes are almost completely back to normal. Surprisingly, he is still being a champ about taking the antibiotics. There is very little struggling when trying to give them to him. I find it more unpleasant trying to get the ointment into his eyes.



We discovered yesterday that Zachary is allergic to dogs. I was hoping that by nursing the boys, I would help decrease their possible allergies but seems this one slipped through the cracks. On our walk home from the park, Zach was licked in the face by a friendly neighborhood dog. Within 15-20 minutes, his face had broken out and his eyes got all puffy. He couldn't stop scratching. I took him to the pharmacist to see what we could give him. We walked out of there with some children's Benadryl. Thankfully it worked very quickly. And the reaction is now completely gone. It is now going to get very interesting going to places with dogs. Hopefully the allergy lessens over time...

On a different note, the boys' Aunt Kiki was up this weekend and she gave Zachary a much needed haircut. He looks like such a little boy with his hair cut! I thought you might like to see my little cutie and his new do...

After the visit to the pediatrician...

I decided it was best to take the time to go see the pediatrician again this morning. I was beginning to worry that it might be more serious than simply pink eye. We validated my concerns and told me to have the prescription filled. He also told me to be on the lookout for a really red and very swollen eye. Apparently that is an indication of a much more serious infection that would require hospitalization. Generally if someone gets "orbital cellulitis" it only occurs in one eye, not both. He informed me that it is rare, but to call him immediately if I was concerned. He gave me his home phone number and told me to call him if things got worse and I was worried. How great of a doctor is that?!!?!

Anyhow, I got the prescription filled and Nicolas got the first dose of the ointment in his eye before nap time. He was such a trooper about it. He didn't even cry! I am so proud of my big boy that still looks like he's been beaten up...

Pink Eye Update

Well, I wish I could say that the pink eye is gone but sadly it is not. Actually it is much worse than it has been. Nicolas was not feeling well yesterday and was exhausted when we put him to bed for the night. So much so that he didn't even wake up once... not even for his bottle.

He woke up crying this morning and so I went in quickly because I thought his eyes might be glued shut due to all the gunk. Boy was I in for a surprise! There was very little gunk but his eyes are so swollen that he can barely open them!

I am not sure what to do. Their pediatrician said that if it's not better (or if it's worse) in 5 days to fill the prescription he gave me for the antibiotic ointment. So, theoretically, I should wait until tomorrow. But, I don't think I can let this continue any longer. He looks so miserable (even though his spirits seem fine) and I can't stand seeing him like this. I have decided to fill the prescription and hope that it gets rid of this. I may also try to get some saline solution to help flush it out...

Zachary talking to the neighbors

This video was taken this afternoon. Two of our neighbors (the one directly in front of us and their next door neighbor) came home at about the same time. We just happened to be sitting in the front window looking out. If you look closely you can see Wendy getting out of her car that is parked on the street. Zachary began having quite the conversation with them even though they could not hear him and had no idea he was even in the window. This went on for almost 20 minutes...

Pink eye...

Well, we are battling pink eye at the moment. Nicolas has it and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Zachary gets it as well. Nicolas is still in a great mood and it has yet to affect his eating or sleeping. The only bad thing is that when he wakes up, his eye is full of gunk and usually glued shut. It is hard to get it all off since his eye seems tender and sensitive to the touch. But, he is being a big boy about it.

We went to see their pediatrician this morning about it and all we can do now is wait it out. Approximately 90% of pink eye is caused by a viral infection, so antibiotics will not help. If in 5 days it is not better or gets worse, I have a prescription to have filled. Nicolas' left eye (the first eye to be affected) already seems better than it was yesterday. But his right eye is now much worse. Hopefully the majority of the gunk came out this morning...


All in all we are doing well. I just feel so sorry for the little guy since his eyes look so terrible. And usually whenever anyone looks into Nicolas' eyes, they shine and are so full of life. Hopefully it won't be much longer before the twinkle is back...

Feeding ourselves

The boys have been wanting to feed themselves more and more. They are extremely interested in using their own spoon. So, whenever they have fruit or yogurt, I give some to them on their own spoon so that they can feed themselves. They are surprisingly doing a great job at it...

Summer fun...

The boys just got a belated birthday present from GG (Steve's grandmother)... a sand and water table. We put it together yesterday and they had a chance to try out the water part of the table. They loved it!! Also, notice their new Tilley hats... those came from Grandma and Grandpa.

Almost walking and an injury

Well, Zachary is very stable on his feet and is very close to walking. Here is a little video of him pushing his Tonka truck around the living room:



Nicolas was trying to push the Tonka truck around today and it tipped over on him. He scraped his chin and it was all bloody. Poor little guy! He is just fine... it's the first of many scrapes, I am sure. Here is a picture of our first real injury...



The scab is a little hard to see in this picture. I will try to get a better one tomorrow and I will post it...

Grandma and Grandpa were visiting today. The boys love it when any other grandparents visit. They are very lucky to have grandparents that are actively involved when they are here. I am sure they all leave here with sore knees (from playing on the floor) and sore arms from holding my heavy little men.

THe boys and I took a walk this morning (it had finally stopped raining!) and made a pit stop at the park. The boys love being in the swings...

On our way home, I looked down into the stroller and saw this:


That is Zachary with his arm around Nicolas. They stayed like this for quite a while. It just melts my heart when they do sweet things like this...

I had a great Mother's Day yesterday. I got to spend it with my three favorite men in the whole world!

Nicolas has taken the lead again!

Well, one of Nicolas' top front teeth has finally made it's appearance! I noticed it during lunch today. It has just barely broken through the gums, but it can be felt. I wouldn't be surprised if there were many more to come from both boys in the next few weeks...

Zachary and Nicolas love to look out the front window. They love to watch everyone come and go from their houses and getting to see the birds fly around. Here is a little video of the doing just that...

Zachary and Nicolas turn 1!!

Well, my babies are officially one year old today. I cannot believe how quickly the time has flown by and I am unsure I know where it has gone.

We had a wonderful day with them. We had an immediate family birthday party for them. Only one of their uncles couldn't make but all of their cousins were here. We were 14 adults and 11 kids (under the age of 7). It was wonderful to have everyone here to share in the celebration. The boys were spoiled (big surprise). They received lots of fun gifts.

They were very tired and ready for their nap when we tried to give them their birthday cake. So, needless to say round one was not a success. However, we tried again at dinner time and they had a blast. Their bath was very necessary tonight... and the fun things is that they got some new cool bath toys to test out!

I am so proud of my little men! They are such wonderful boys and we are so lucky to have them in our lives. I don't remember what life was like before them, nor do I ever want to find out. Honestly, I would have a lot more children if I was guaranteed that they would be just as wonderful...

This time last year....

the nurses had started the induction over 12 hours ago and I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of my precious little boys. They were not cooperating with the doctors; I guess they were way too comfy to want to come out! It would be almost another 7 hours before they made their appearance.
