Fun in the Jolly Jumper

The boys were having so much fun in the Jolly Jumper last night before bedtime that I decided to take a few videos of them in it this morning.

As you can see, Zachary has it completely figured out. He knows just how to move his legs and when to time his jumps. He is so proud of himself. He spends the entire time smiling and making noises (usually grunting - I guess it's a man thing!).



Nicolas has not quite figured out the movement yet but is getting better every time he plays in it. Even though he does not jump like his brother, he still enjoys being in the Jolly Jumper. He usually spends a fair amount of time "talking" to his shadow. It's really funny to see.



I have found the Jolly Jumper to be a great activity for the boys just before bath time. It is great exercise and seems to tucker them out more than they already are. It also seems to be helping them sleep a little longer...

Butternut Squash

In preparation for Thanksgiving next week, I decided to have the boys try some butternut squash for lunch today. The both seemed to enjoy it. They always make a face the first time they try anything but they ate everything I prepared for them. In a few days I plan to try sweet potatoes...

The cutest thing happened...

We were in the van on the way home from Nana and Papa's house this afternoon. I was sitting in the back bench to entertain the boys during the ride. I started making silly noises and this is what happened...

I apologize for the quality and the unsteady movement. We were in the car after all...

Nicolas was being so adorable. I love hearing them laugh. How can you be having a bad day when this is what you get to spend it with...

I also had Zachary laughing but he got fed up of the game before I could get out the camera. He had been awake longer than Nicolas and was starting to get fed up of being in the car. I will get him next time...

Veggie of the day

Since it is Saturday and it is time to try a new veggie, I decided that Steve should choose what they will eat next. So, he decided on.... cream corn!?! I thought it was a weird choice, especially consideing there was squash, sweet potatoe and beans left to be tried, but I told him to choose and he did just that. He also decided that he would be the one to feed them. Here are the results:

They both enjoyed the cream corn. They really have the hang of this food thing and LOVE to watch us eat. They are constantly grabbing at our plates and wanting to have whatever it is we are having. Soon enough they will be...

Yay for Nicolas!

Last night the boys were in bed around 8:30. They seem to be moving away from the 6:00 pm nap time and are exhausted by the time 8:00 rolls around. So, we have been starting bath time around 8:00 and the boys are generally in bed by 8:30.

Nicolas was up for a feed around 12:15 am or so. Zachary was up just shortly after 12:45 am (just long enough for me to get back into bed and be dozing off!). They both went back to sleep very easily after their feed. Around 3:00 Nicolas woke up but I knew that if I couldn't get him to stay asleep until at least 4:00, I would be starting my day before 6:00 am. So, I went and sat next to his crib and held his hands and rubbed his head until he fell back to sleep. This took about 5-10 minutes. Zachary woke up around 4:30 for another feed and Nicolas was still asleep! He did not wake up again until 6:45 this morning! He went 6.5 hours between feeds! He has not done that in a few weeks.

I am hoping that this trend continues. I would love to try and get the out of the habit of waking up for two feeds in the middle of the night. When they boys started sleeping through the night, it began much like this. I needed to go in and help them fall back to sleep and after a few days, then were no longer waking up and needing to be comforted. So, hopefully I will have a few nights of them needing me to help get them back to sleep and then they might sleep right through on their own... Here's to wishful thinking.

5 months old today...

Zachary and Nicolas are 5 months old today. My babies are growing up so fast. It feels like it was yesterday that they were making their grand entrace into the world.

Since it is Thursday today, I decided to head out to the breastfeeding clinic to have the boys weighed. Here are the numbers:

Zachary: now weighs 17 lbs 4 oz (up from 15 lbs 10 oz a month ago)

Nicolas: now weighs 15 lbs 10.5 oz (up from 14 lbs 1 oz a month ago)

Peas

Surprisingly it went over very well. Nicolas was a trooper, yet again. Zachary didn't seem too sure at first, but he ended up eating a fair amount. I think he enjoyed it much more than the carrots.

I am loving this type of feeding! It is so interesting to watch them discover new things. I am just looking forward to them eating a little bit better. Nicolas still hasn't quite figured out that he needs to open his mouth when the spoon is coming. Zachary gets a little too excited when the food is coming and he ends up with a lot of it coming out of his mouth rather than in it. But, that is the joys of starting the boys on solid foods.

Now I have a few days to decide which veggie is next...
